The impact of artificial intelligence has finally hit the RAM market. SK Hynix, which manufactures DDR5 memory, announced that it will increase its prices as part of the latest statement sent to its customers. It seems likely that DDR5 memory will increase by around 20 percent.
20% price increase for DDR5 memory
According to a new report, SK Hynix has informed its customers that it will increase DDR5 memory prices by 15-20 percent. This price increase is due to the growing demand for high-capacity HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) used in AI and GPU applications.
SK Hynix, the world’s second largest DRAM supplier after Samsung, said the DDR5 price increase was necessary due to high demand from NVIDIA and other customers. SK Hynix’s entire HBM production for 2024 is already full and even most of 2025 is booked. This has led the company to shift production from DDR5 to HBM.
The surge in demand from HBM is expected to create a wave of price hikes in the memory industry. Samsung and Micron are rumored to follow in SK Hynix’s footsteps and raise DDR5 prices in the coming months.
Taiwanese manufacturer Nanya recently started mass production of 16GB DDR5 chips. In this context, it expects to benefit from the price increase. Brands such as ADATA, whose DDR5 products account for half of its revenue, also expect growth.
If the 15-20 percent increase predicted by SK Hynix is realized, it may lead to an increase in computer prices. HBM memory, which is essential for AI and GPU, can significantly affect the prices of technologies such as DDR5.
